And then comes the rude awakening that beating the game’s hardest modes requires a level of placement precision and resource management that other tower defense games balk at. For players hoping to complete all of the achievements on the toughest maps, they’ll require the services of only the best heroes in Bloons TD 6. And some of those heroes just plain aren’t worth the cash it takes to unlock them.
Updated on April 16th, 2022 by Hodey Johns: Part of the difficulty of making a ranking for any game is that players’ experiences will differ due to their own opinions and talents. Of course, these experiences matter far more than anybody else’s “expert” ideas. If players can beat the game with a hero that is not getting enough love, go out and do it. All that being granted, it’s still wise to understand why players with heroes higher on the list might have an easier time equalling these challenges. To bridge these two perspectives, a blurb has been added in each section with ideas about how to use the hero effectively.
13 Benjamin
The number of problems with Benjamin is not small. His abilities that make balloons weaker also makes player receive less money from each one. He’s forbidden from use on harder difficulties that prevent extra income. And the money he would give is easily replaced by the vastly superior Banana Farm.
Benjamin can be used for players that want to focus on economy and swear to never use his ability. Keep him away from the action and put him by the Banana Farms. Benjamin won’t pay for himself for a long time, but when waves start approaching the 80+ range, he can be an asset.
12 Captain Churchill
Captain Churchill fires in a straight line, which is fine for long gauntlets. But those maps are few and far between as the maps ramp up in difficulty, making Captain Churchill a very niche hero to use. While he can wipe out weaker balloons, he struggles later, especially against MOAB class blimps.
On maps that happen to have long gauntlets, Captain Churchill’s value does shoot up substantially. He’s a bit capped against stronger units, so he’s best used on quick maps where the waves don’t get too difficult.
11 Admiral Brickell
The only weakness for Admiral Brickell is a fairly steep one; he has to be placed in water. No water on the map? Too bad. Water in a bad place? Too bad. Other than that, he’s a solid selection, even if he’s not the most versatile.
On heavy water maps, he comes to life. Steam players have their favorite tower defense games and many of these games have specialty towers that go from great usage to no usage at all. Admiral Brickell can and should be considered akin to those specialty towers.
10 Ezili
The big reason to use Ezili is her ability at level twenty which can outright destroy the big airships. Unfortunately, getting her to level twenty requires an investment that is tough to justify due to her middling damage. Those looking for an instant death move can find a cheaper one on the Monkey Buccaneer after a few upgrades.

Ezili is on the low end of the cost-benefit spectrum, but she’s far from worthless in the endgame. When MOAB class blimps start to absolute thousands of hits before being destroyed, that instant death feature comes in handy. Get to level twenty on maps that go for at least eighty waves to make the most use of her.
9 Gwendolin
There was a time when Gwendolin topped the leaderboards but she’s taken a dive as players required more from their heroes. Players who love mobile anime games might enjoy her colorful and fiery effects, but there are better options in terms of raw damage.
Gwendolin’s power is most noticeable in rounds with forty to sixty waves. Any earlier and the balloons are too weak for her damage-over-time to be effective. Too late and better damage options are there. But right between zero and one hundred, she shines.
8 Quincy
If gamers were to vote on the most average hero in the game, they’d probably come up with Quincy. There’s nothing wrong with a tower that can do a little bit of everything. But usually players prefer heroes that have a specialty instead of just generally above-average damage.
Very few heroes do as well in the early game as Quincy does, thanks to the great range, solid damage, and adequate firing rate. On maps where the first few waves are the toughest, Quincy can handle them with ease, just be sure to invest in buildings and not Quincy after level twenty.
7 Etienne
Etienne’s drones don’t have the range or traveling abilities of other towers in open-world mobile games, but being able to see over cliffs and walls can be clutch on maps where there are definitive blockades. Multiple drones also allow for Etienne to attack multiple targets, so the damage is functional when other DPS heroes would ordinarily be getting overwhelmed.
Etienne’s ideal usage is very particular. On maps that have obstacles to prevent towers from getting off multiple shots, he can ignore these obstacles. Place him where a tower would ordinarily be blocked from dealing damage.
6 Striker Jones
Don’t question the damage of Striker Jones against clusters of balloons. When the game attempts to sneak in loads of balloons are once, Striker Jones will experience absolutely no damage difference between this and a single balloon.

He isn’t great against MOAB blimps but that’s not his primary function. This hero can free up players to build against single-target damage as he single-handedly takes care of the little stuff. After placing him down, focus the rest of the buildings on dealing with single targets, Striker Jones will handle the rest.
5 Psi
With an unlimited range and no blocking worries, Psi is one of the best heroes to put down on longer tracks. His damage isn’t as strong of a burst as many of the other heroes on this list, but the fact that he can hit balloons anywhere assures that his damage is valid no matter how far away balloons get.
Psi is a safety blanket for many gamers. There is no way to make his usefulness change from map to map since the layout is irrelevant. His usefulness falls off on later waves, but the stun ability can make Psi good on all maps when timed as the strong blimps find themselves in the middle of other damage towers.
4 Sauda
Sauda gets the distinction of being the highest damage hero in the game. This is, of course, assuming that the balloons are in point-blank range. Her puny range may make some gamers irritated enough to look elsewhere, but put her in a high-traffic corner and she’ll put up numbers that no other hero on this list can equal.
If the map has a tiny peninsula where only one tower can fit, Sauda is the only hero to consider for the honor. Conceptually, so long as opponents get hurt on three of her four sides, that’s how she’s best used.
3 Pat Fusty
Beating a challenge in Bloons TD 6 is more than just winning a few rounds. Players need to be strong at the start, middle, and end of the game. Pat Fusty is a hero that is great at all phases for different reasons. At the start, he’s strong enough to handle several waves on his own. By the end, he’s a significant support tower for other monkeys.
The only maps that Pat Fusty shouldn’t be considered for do not have the room for towers to be grouped together during high-level waves. Since Pat Fusty turns into a support hero in the final phase, he needs to surround himself with strong towers to be effective.
2 Adora
Adora’s got a healthy mix of hitting hard and hitting all over the map. Her chain attack will remind players of the ninja monkey tower, often considered one of the best in the game, so in hero form, Adora is as good as advertised. Perhaps no other hero handles early waves on their own for longer, allowing players to set up more complex configurations.
Adora is a set-it-and-forget-it type of hero that works well on every map, especially ones that have multiple tracks. Her main attack will bounce with limitless range, so as long as she’s attacking, no balloon on the map can be considered safe.
1 Obyn Greenfoot
There is no contest for who the best hero tower in the game is, at the moment. Discounting the overpowered druid strategy, Obyn Greenfoot can hit through walls, pop lead balloons, generate revenue with trees, and place a briar that functions as a mine.
His support of other druids, though, puts him above the rest of the heroes even further. The druid method is widely considered the best in the game and Obyn Greenfoot enables it. Unless the map expressly forbids the druid tower strategy, Obyn Greenfoot is the best.
Bloons TD 6 was released on June 14th, 2018, and is available for Android, iOS, and PC.
