Gold Glove winner Stroman will spend some time on the sidelines due to shoulder fatigue – the move retractive to May 9 – the Blue Jays announced before their MLB showdown with the Boston Red Sox on Friday.
“It just got to the point where it was so mentally and physically frustrating, I just need to take a step back for a second, put it all together and come back and be myself out there,” Stroman said.
The Jays also announced that left-handed reliever Tim Mayza has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo and Toronto recalled right-handers Joe Biagini and Sam Gaviglio, who are primary candidates to take Stroman’s spot in the rotation.
Stroman, 27, dealt with shoulder inflammation in spring training, forcing him to miss opening day and delay his first start.
He has not had a strong start to his 2018 season, posting a 7.71 ERA in seven starts.
